At Honor Roll, we believe that how we speak to one another matters. “Language Arts” is a concept that invites us to pause and reflect on the words we choose, the tone we carry, and the energy we bring into our shared spaces. It’s a call to be intentional — to recognize that while we all communicate differently, we each have the power to build bridges or barriers with our
language.

“Language Arts” encourages us to see communication as a kind of art form — one that can be developed through awareness and care. It asks us to notice when our language fails to reflect love, empathy, or respect-and to do the work of shifting those habits. Not out of shame, but
out of growth. Out of a desire to make the spaces we influence more thoughtful, more open, more
human

That kind of curiosity might sound like:

– How is this person showing up today?
– Is this the right time or space for this conversation? With all I know about them, how can I communicate this in a way they’ll receive with
openness?
– Will the words I use build a bridge— or burn one?

When we take the time to ask these questions, we become better listeners. Better friends. Better partners, teammates, neighbors, leaders. We create room not just for clearer communication-but for deeper connection. ecause at the end of the day, it’s not just about coexisting.

It’s about understanding. It’s abor owing together. And when we choose language that honors that, everyone in the room gets little closer to being seen, heard, and understood.

A Place to Play is an open chess experience curated by Honor Roll Clothing and Portrait Coffee, designed to invite the community into the culture of chess through an engaging and low-barrier entry point. Whether you’re brand new to the board or a seasoned player, this is your place to explore, learn, and—most importantly—play.

Chess is one of those rare games where two people from completely different backgrounds can come together over a shared rhythm of movement, patience, and intention. We believe play is more than recreation—it’s a mindset that invites possibility. When people are in a state of play, they open up, connect, and grow.

As brand storytellers and curators of community, we’re committed to creating spaces where learning and play happen side by side—where creativity, culture, and connection can thrive. This activation uses chess as a catalyst to foster community, spark learning, and encourage thoughtful, low-pressure, and fun engagement.

Within the world of Honor Roll, chess represents more than strategy—it reflects the kind of self-awareness, focus, and adaptability that we believe build better thinkers and leaders. That’s why chess has long had a place in academic spaces, from elementary school clubs to university commons. It’s a quiet teacher of discipline, decision-making, and presence.

During this activation, we’ll have chess boards set up outdoors in Portrait Coffee’s courtyard, paired with music and a vibe that encourages fun, conversation, and learning. All experience levels are welcome—we’re here to create a space where people can connect through the game, the culture, and the community.

Spring/Summer ’23 Collection:
“A Place to Learn”

The historical purpose of what we know to be the “Public Library” was designed to assure that the community at large had access to free and valuable information.

We at Honor Roll Clothing believe not only in the value of the physical library but we also embrace it as a concept.

“The Library”, to us, is a symbol that reflects the idea of “A Place to Learn”. Learning is something that we believe happens in and outside of your typical education environments – thus there are many unassuming places that too can serve as well of wisdom and knowledge.
